What they do
ART WORKS FOR CHANGE IMPLEMENTED THE TRUE STORIES PROJECT OVER A 7 MONTH PERIOD AT GIRLS INC IN OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA AND WITH OUR PARTNER GROUP, SIDDHARTHA FOUNDATION IN KATHMANDU, NEPAL. WE USED ART ACTIVITIES WITH ADOLESCENT BOYS AND GIRLS AND WOMEN WHO HAD BEEN SURVIVORS OF SEX TRAFFICKING OR AT RISK FOR EXPLOITATION TO HELP THEM HEAL AND FIND THEIR VOICE. THE PROJECT EVOLVED INTO A CONTEMPORARY ART EXHIBITION THAT WILL OPEN AT THE PATAN MUSEUM IN KATHMANDU IN 2017. THE INTENT OF THE PROJECT WAS TO CREATE AWARENESS OF THE ROOT CAUSES OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN; FOSTER EMPATHY FOR THEIR STORIES; AND BRING THE PROBLEM OF EXPLOITATION AND SEX TRAFFICKING TO THE LIGHT. THE OFTEN SILENCED AND SOMETIMES UNCOMFORTABLE ISSUES ADDRESSED ARE MEANT TO SPARK DIALOGUE AND CATALYZE ACTION.
Are they doing good?
The public paperwork has several good signs. Now check whether the charity can show who it helped.
Here is the honest answer: A tax form shows money and paperwork. It cannot prove that people, animals, or the community were truly helped.

Money made simple
Ask these three easy questions
- Who did you help? Ask for a recent story or report that shows real results.
- What will my money do? Ask exactly what your gift will pay for.
- Is this really the charity? Give only through its official website or confirmed phone number.
Bottom line: Good paperwork is a good sign—not proof. The best answer comes when the charity can show what it changed, who it helped, and what your gift will do. YouCanGiveBack does not endorse or grade organizations.
