IT TAKES PLACE EACH YEAR IN A DIFFERENT COMMUNITY IN THE UNITED STATES. ITS A FESTIVAL THAT BRINGS MODERN FINLAND TOGETHER WITH HISTORIC and CONTEMPORARY AMERICA. FINNFEST USA is AN ETHNIC FESTIVAL LIKE NO OTHER IN THE U.S. EACH ANNUAL FESTIVAL is ORGANIZED BY A LOCAL SITE WORKING UNDER THE SUPERVISION of THE NATIONAL BOARD. LOCAL FINNISH AMERICAN ORGANIZATIONS and INDIVIDUALS WORK WITH THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY IN ORGANIZING THE FESTIVAL. FINNFEST USA 2013 WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE CITIES of HOUGHTON and HANCOCK, MICHIGAN and THEIR SURROUNDING AREAS. IT WILL CELEBRATE THE ARRIVAL of FINNISH IMMIGRANTS to THE AREA, COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE "COPPER COUNTRY" ON MIDSUMMER EVE, 1865. of EQUAL IMPORTANCE, IT WILL TRANSFORM THE CHALLENGES, CONFLICTS, and TRAGEDIES of THE PAST CENTURY INTO A CELEBRATION of HERITAGE and CULTURE for THE NEWEST GENERATION
