What they do
THE ROCKFORD EDUCATION FOUNDATION (REF) WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1991 to PROVIDE RESOURCES for INCREASED EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES for PEOPLE of ALL AGES IN THE ROCKFORD COMMUNITY. THE REF is AN INDEPENDENT, NON-PROFIT CORPORATION, GOVERNED BY A VOLUNTEER BOARD of TRUSTEES FROM THE COMMUNITY. TEACHERS, STUDENTS, and COMMUNITY MEMBERS WITH INNOVATIVE IDEAS HAVE RECEIVED GRANTS for WIDE-RANGING, EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES. LARGE & MINI GRANTS ARE AWARDED TWICE ANNUALLY BASED ON THE MERIT of THE REQUEST and ITS ABILITY to PROMOTE EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE. COMMUNITY IMPACT GRANTS ARE REVIEWED AT TIME of SUBMISSION and DETERMINED CASE BY CASE, WHEREAS STUDENT GRANTS CAN BE REVIEWED and APPROVED DURING THE MONTHLY BOARD MEETINGS. THE REF is PROUD to AWARD EDUCATIONAL GRANTS to THE ROCKFORD COMMUNITY.

Plain answer: A tax form cannot prove that a charity is doing good. It can show how the charity says it spent its money—and point out questions you should ask.

Money made simple
Ask these three easy questions
- Who did you help? Ask for a recent story or report that shows real results.
- What will my money do? Ask exactly what your gift will pay for.
- Is this really the charity? Give only through its official website or confirmed phone number.
Bottom line: Do not decide from a name, mission statement, or tax status alone. Look at where the money went, then ask what changed, who was helped, and what your gift will do. YouCanGiveBack does not endorse or grade organizations.
