What they do

THE YEAR 2020 TURNED OUT to BE A VERY UNUSUAL YEAR, to SAY THE LEAST. STILL, OUR ONLY SERVICE is to PROVIDE for THE CARE and UPKEEP of THE CEMETERY AT HEDEMARKEN LUTHERAN CHURCH. WE ARE A SMALL CONGREGATION SO PHONE CALLS and VIRTUAL MEETINGS DID SUFFICE IN GETTING THE BUSINESS of THE YEAR TAKEN CARE OF. THE TRUSTEES DID GET TOGETHER IN MAY for A CLEANUP DAY. WE PICKED UP BRANCHES and FILLED DIRT WHERE NEEDED, to MAKE SURE THE CEMETERY LOOKS GREAT. IT ONLY TOOK ONE DAY SO ALL OUR TIME WAS DONATED. DUE to THE PANDEMIC, THE CHURCH WAS CLOSED for THE YEAR. FUNERALS WERE HELD AT THE FUNERAL HOME and MEETINGS WERE HELD ELSEWHERE. WE ARE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING CLOSING THE CHURCH for GOOD THIS WINTER AS IT COST 5,057 IN EXPENSES IN 2020. BUT THE CEMETERY is THERE FOREVER.

Plain answer: A tax form cannot prove that a charity is doing good. It can show how the charity says it spent its money—and point out questions you should ask.

Ask these three easy questions

  1. Who did you help? Ask for a recent story or report that shows real results.
  2. What will my money do? Ask exactly what your gift will pay for.
  3. Is this really the charity? Give only through its official website or confirmed phone number.

Bottom line: Do not decide from a name, mission statement, or tax status alone. Look at where the money went, then ask what changed, who was helped, and what your gift will do. YouCanGiveBack does not endorse or grade organizations.
