ALTHOUGH THE JAIL WILL BE LARGER THAN WE WANTED, IT is SMALLER THAN ORIGINALLY PROPOSED and COMES WITH RENEWED COMMITMENT to REFORMS THAT WILL KEEP MORE PEOPLE OUT of JAIL and OUT of THE CRIMINAL-LEGAL SYSTEM. THE CHALLENGE NOW is to MAKE SURE THAT THE NEW JAIL LIVES UP to THE PROMISED IMPROVEMENTS. WE CONTINUE to ADVOCATE for IMPROVEMENTS THAT CAN BE MADE BOTH BEFORE and AFTER THE JAIL CONSOLIDATION PROJECT is COMPLETE. JSRI ALSO MEETS WITH NEWLY ELECTED and APPOINTED INDIVIDUALS, to GAIN UNDERSTANDING and to DEVELOP RELATIONSHIPS. THESE INCLUDE: THE IMPLEMENTATION of A CRISIS/TRIAGE CENTER WILL BOTH HELP to KEEP PEOPLE OUT of THE CRIMINAL-LEGAL SYSTEM and BE AN IMPORTANT RESOURCE for INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE HAVING A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS; THE COMMUNITY ALTERNATIVE RESPONSE EMERGENCY SERVICES (CARES) PROGRAM IN MAD
