What they do
THE VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISSION of BOONE COUNTY (VACBC) is A COUNTY GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY OPERATED BY and for U.S. VETERANS. THE VACBC is AUTHORIZED to ACT AS THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE for VETERANS ASSISTANCE IN BOONE COUNTY UNDER THE ILLINOIS MILITARY VETERANS ASSISTANCE ACT (330 ILCS 45/1 ET SEQ.) and is FUNDED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PROVISIONS of THE ILLINOIS COUNTIES CODE (55 ILCS 5/1-1001 ET SEQ.). THE VETERANS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM is AN EMERGENCY and INTERIM FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. ALL ASSISTANCE PROVIDED is BASED ON ESTABLISHED STANDARDS of NEED AS SET FORTH BY IDHS (ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT of HUMAN SERVICES) or BY THE VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISSION of BOONE COUNTY. AN ELIGIBLE VETERAN for VACBC ASSISTANCE is A VETERAN WHOSE LAST PERIOD of ACTIVE MILITARY SERVICE WAS HONORABLE and MET THE TIME IN SERVICE REQUIREMENT for THE ERA IN WHICH THE VETERAN SERVED UNLESS THE VETERAN WAS DISCHARGED for A DISABILITY INCURRED IN THE LINE of DUTY (NOT AS A RESULT of THE MEMBERS OWN MISCONDUCT)
Should I give to this charity?
Basic public information is available, but it is not enough to judge how well donations are used. Ask the charity for a current spending breakdown and results.
Plain answer: A tax form cannot prove that a charity is doing good. It can show how the charity says it spent its money—and point out questions you should ask.

Money made simple
Ask these three easy questions
- Who did you help? Ask for a recent story or report that shows real results.
- What will my money do? Ask exactly what your gift will pay for.
- Is this really the charity? Give only through its official website or confirmed phone number.
Worth asking: Expenses exceeded revenue by $37,173 this year. Ask whether that was planned or caused by a one-time event.
Bottom line: Do not decide from a name, mission statement, or tax status alone. Look at where the money went, then ask what changed, who was helped, and what your gift will do. YouCanGiveBack does not endorse or grade organizations.
