LEMON BAY HISTORICAL SOCIETY INC

EIN 65-0128320 · Visual Arts (A40)

What they do

Although The Lemon Bay Historical Society Owns The Historic Building That Was Englewoods First Church, The Land It Sat On Was Leased. The Lease Was Set to Expire In 2018 and The Society Was Informed That The Lease Would Not Be Renewed. The Society Offered to Buy The Land But The Owner Declined The Offer. In Addition, Parking Was An Issue. In Order to Save This Historic Building, to Ensure Problem-free Parking and Access for Community Events, The Historical Society Elected to Raise The Funds Required to Move The Building to A Lot It Owned On The South Side of The Lemon Bay Cemetery. This New Location is More Appropriate As An Historical Setting As It is Adjacent to The Burying Ground of Many of Englewoods Pioneer Families. Over $200,000 Has Been Raised and The Building Was Successfully Moved to Its Permanent Home On 9/11/18. Over $30,000 Was Raised In 2019 to Restore/preserve The Historical Building. Renovations Were Completed In 2019 and The Building Was Available for Use As of October

Should I give to this charity?

The spending raises an important question

Of every $100 spent, about $18.70 was reported for mission work and $0.00 for fundraising. Understand this before you give.

Plain answer: A tax form cannot prove that a charity is doing good. It can show how the charity says it spent its money—and point out questions you should ask.

Money made simple

3.54%of revenue went to mission work18.7% of expenses · Program services

Ask these three easy questions

  1. Who did you help? Ask for a recent story or report that shows real results.
  2. What will my money do? Ask exactly what your gift will pay for.
  3. Is this really the charity? Give only through its official website or confirmed phone number.

Bottom line: Do not decide from a name, mission statement, or tax status alone. Look at where the money went, then ask what changed, who was helped, and what your gift will do. YouCanGiveBack does not endorse or grade organizations.

Has the pattern changed?

Colored bars = expense mix: how each year’s expenses were divided. Total expenses vs. revenue shows whether the charity spent less or more than it received. The current filing is first.
