Provided Kits of Food, Water & Toiletries to 451 Legal Asylum Seekers, Traveling Through New Orleans to Sponsors Around The US. These Travelers Lacked Basic Necessities and The Money to Buy Them. The Original Mission of The NOLA Grannies Was to Provide Food, Water, Diapers, Toys, Warm Clothes, Hygiene Supplies and Information to Asylum Seekers As They Made Their Way By Bus Across The Country From Detention Centers to Their Sponsors Homes. The Grannies Also Assisted Families With Bus Tickets, Meals When Buses Were Missed or Running Late, and A Warm Welcome to Help Allay Their Fears In An Unknown Environment. Before Made A Series of Escalating Changes to U.S. Immigration Policies, While The Grannies Had Assisted A Total of 8,214 Women, Men, and Children In 2019 and 451 In 2020, Changes to US Immigration Policies By The Previous Administration Led to A Slow-down and Then to An Eventual Halt As Asylum Seekers Were Required to Remain In Mexico Under The Migrant Protection Protocols.
