What they do

OUR MISSION is to PROVIDE HOUSING AS A FIRST STEP TOWARD REBUILDING SECURITY, SAFETY and DIGNITY for OUR UNHOUSED NEIGHBORS IN THE SOUTHEAST QUADRANT of WASHINGTON, DC. AT GRACE IN ACTION, WE BELIEVE IN HOUSING FIRST AS IT PROVIDES for THE BASIC SAFETY and SURVIVAL NEEDS for THOSE WHO ARE AT RISK. WE BELIEVE THAT HOUSING SECURITY MUST BE ATTENDED to PRIOR to ADDRESSING NEEDS for EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, INCREASING WAGES and EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES, ADDRESSING ADDICTION CHALLENGES, IMPROVING PHYSICAL and MENTAL HEALTH CARE, and ADDRESSING OTHER SOCIAL CONCERNS. ALL of THESE PROBLEMS ARISE FROM FAILED or INADEQUATE ECONOMIC and POLITICAL INSTITUTIONS and POLICIES THAT MARGINALIZE THOSE WITH THE FEWEST RESOURCES and CAPABILITIES.

Are they doing good?

Easy charity check
Good signs so far

The public paperwork has several good signs. Now check whether the charity can show who it helped.

Here is the honest answer: A tax form shows money and paperwork. It cannot prove that people, animals, or the community were truly helped.

Money made simple

$61.18spent for every $100 of revenueRevenue covered expenses this year.
$4.40of every $100 spent went to management and office costsThis number alone does not tell us how much good they did.

47.2%of its money came from giftsOther money may come from services or investments.

Ask these three easy questions

  1. Who did you help? Ask for a recent story or report that shows real results.
  2. What will my money do? Ask exactly what your gift will pay for.
  3. Is this really the charity? Give only through its official website or confirmed phone number.

Bottom line: Good paperwork is a good sign—not proof. The best answer comes when the charity can show what it changed, who it helped, and what your gift will do. YouCanGiveBack does not endorse or grade organizations.
