What they do
Good Eats for Life Was Founded In 2017 to Address Food Insecurity Amongst Elementary School Children In Harlem. We Provided Backpacks of Shelf-stable, Easy-open Nutritious Food Items Every Friday to The Most Vulnerable Students Who Only Eat At School. When The Backpacks Are Returned On Monday, They Are Refilled With Meals for The Next Friday Distribution. We Expanded The Program to Los Angeles for The 2019-2020 School Year With Hillcrest Drive Elementary. We Worked With The Parent Center Counselors to Fill The Weekly Packs... and Expanded With Thanksgiving Meal Groceries to Parents At The Holiday. During The Pandemic, The Need for Backpacks Went Away Because of Remote Schooling. We Shifted Our Focus to Providing Groceries to Students Families, Along With Warm Restaurant Meals Purchased From BIPOC-owned Restaurants to Encourage Students During Grab & Go Stations Set Up On The Sidewalk In Front of The School.
