THE TRIBAL COUNCIL of THE KERN VALLEY INDIAN COMMUNITY (HEREINAFTER REFERRED to AS THE TRIBE) COMPRISED of MEMBERS INDIGENOUS to THE ABORIGINAL TERRITORY. THE TRIBAL MEMBERS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT RESOURCE AVAILABLE to OUR TRIBE. THIS CONSTITUTION is ADOPTED to PROVIDE GUIDANCE to THE TRIBES GOVERNING BODY to BETTER SERVE THE NEEDS and PRESERVE THE CULTURE and TRADITIONS of THE TRIBAL MEMBERS. THE KERN VALLEY INDIAN COUNCIL WAS FORMED and ADOPTED BY LAWS IN 1983. IN 1984 THE TRIBE AMENDED THE BY LAWS to INCORPORATE AS A NOT for PROFIT CORPORATION UNDER THE STATE of CALIFORNIA and OBTAIN A NOT for PROFIT for PROFIT FEDERAL TAX ID NUMBER AS THE FOUNDATION for THE KERN VALLEY INDIAN COMMUNITY. THE KERN VALLEY INDIAN COUNCILHAS OFFICIALLY GOVERNED THE AFFAIRS of THE KERN VALLEY INDIAN COMMUNITY for THE PAST TWO (2) DECADES. THE TRIBE FORMALLY ORGANIZED to BETTER PROTECT and PRESERVE OUR HERITAGE, LANGUAGE, CUSTOMS, PROVIDE GUIDELINES for TRIBAL GOVERNANCE, SET CRITIRIA for TRIBALMEMBERSHIP
