What they do
THE MANOOMIN ARTS INITIATIVE (MAI) is AN INDIGENOUS-LED ARTIST-LED CREATIVE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION THAT SUPPORTS ARTISTS and CULTIVATES THE CREATIVE ECONOMY WITHIN THE WHITE EARTH NATION and SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES. WE WORK WITH LOCAL ARTISTS and YOUTH to CREATE PUBLIC ART PROJECTS, COLLABORATE WITH OTHER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS to BRING ARTIST RESIDENCIES, ORGANIZE ARTS FESTIVALS, and SUPPORT ART WORKSHOPS IN OUR COMMUNITY. OUR CURRENT WORK is to ACTIVATE CREATIVE SPACES WHERE OUR ARTISTS CAN EXHIBIT, CREATE, TEACH, and SELL THEIR WORK. MAI GREW FROM A MULTI-YEAR COLLABORATION BETWEEN THE WHITE EARTH NATION (WEN), THE CITY of MAHNOMEN, MN, and THE MAHNOMEN COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY (MCEDA). IN 2017, THE WENS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIVISIONS GIZHIIGIN ARTS INCUBATOR, THE CITY of MAHNOMEN, and THE MCEDA COLLABORATED ON THE RAINBOW THEATER MURAL PUBLIC ART PROJECT. IN 2021, THE COLLABORATION CONTINUED WHEN MAHNOMEN RECEIVED AN ARTIST ON MAIN STREET GRANT. THE MANOO

Money made simple
Ask these three easy questions
- Who did you help? Ask for a recent story or report that shows real results.
- What will my money do? Ask exactly what your gift will pay for.
- Is this really the charity? Give only through its official website or confirmed phone number.
Bottom line: Do not decide from a name, mission statement, or tax status alone. Look at where the money went, then ask what changed, who was helped, and what your gift will do. YouCanGiveBack does not endorse or grade organizations.
Financial picture
A plain-language look at the latest Form 990 figures available. These numbers help you ask better questions; they do not, by themselves, rate whether a charity is good or bad.
How each $100 of revenue was used
The large number compares each expense with revenue. The smaller number shows its share of total expenses.
Gray means reported revenue left after expenses for this filing year. It does not necessarily mean cash sitting in a bank account.
