Details on what is needed: Strong literacy skills are the foundation of academic success, career readiness, and lifelong learning. St. Thomas More high school students represent a diverse population with varying literacy strengths and needs, including students who require targeted intervention, enrichment, and individualized instruction. Recent assessment data indicate persistent gaps in reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and written communication skills among many of our incoming freshmen students.
To address these challenges, St. Thomas More (STM) seeks funding to support two evidence-based literacy resources: MAP Growth assessments and NoRedInk. Together, these tools provide comprehensive support for literacy development by combining accurate diagnostic data with personalized instruction in writing, grammar, and reading comprehension.

Without access to these resources, STM’s ability to effectively identify learning needs, monitor student growth, and provide differentiated literacy instruction would be significantly limited. The initial MAP testing data allows STM to offer students extra academic support through referrals to our on-site support teacher. For those students who may need a little extra skill and drill practice, NoRedInk provides personalized opportunities for all freshmen. This grant funding will ensure that all students continue to benefit from high-quality assessments and personalized literacy learning experiences.
