GETTING AHEAD WORKSHOP is AN 18 WEEK CLASS THAT TEACHES INDIVIDUALS IN POVERTY TOOLS, CONCEPTS and HELPS THEM BUILD A HEALTHY SUPPORT SYSTEM, PROVIDES CHILDCARE, A MEAL and TRANSPORTATION. THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDES FOLLOW-UP ONE ON ONE WITH EACH INDIVIDUAL AS THEY BUILD THEIR RESOURCES. AFTER CLASS THE ORGANIZATION HOLDS MONTHLY MEETINGS THAT PROVIDE RESOURCES, LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES and ONGOING SUPPORT to GRADUATES, MENTORS and CHILDREN IN THE PROGRAM. THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 150 VOLUNTEERS for EACH GETTING AHEAD WORKSHOP. THE ORGANIZATION HAS A BOOK A MONTH CLUB THAT is PART of THE WORKSHOP ENSURING CHILDREN GET A NEW BOOK A MONTH to DEVELOP LANGUAGE RESOURCES.
